Living In Yellow {Guest Post}

Happy Friday my lovelies!
I can't belive today is the last day of our vacation
and that we'll be heading home tomorrow!

Today's guest blogger is my very newest
{is that a word?!}
bloggy buddy
and I already love her dearly.

If you want a good laugh, head over to her blog.
You won't be disappointed,
for reals.

Anyway,
here's Erin!!

Hello to all you pretty little ladies
 {and all you handsome gents that I am sure are "secretly" reading ;)}
I am so excited to be over here today.
My name is Erin and I come from Living In Yellow.

To learn more about me click here.
The real reason I am here today is to teach you a lesson:
You may be craftier than you think.
You see-there is not a crafty bone that exists in my body {or so I thought}.
I have a lot of bones that enjoy purchasing items already made-laying in the sun-and drinking a good glass of wine-but none that like to "make" things.
Until now.
I have been blessed with a sister and friends who have those
"I can make anything and make it look cute" genes.
They have talent-they understand how to use a needle and thread-
and they certainly know not to touch the end of a plugged in hot glue gun.
This same sister and friends have decided to start hosting "Craft Nights" every so often, and if you know me...you know I don't like to miss out on a party.
So I've been going.
And I've been crafting.
And somehow, someway, I have been able to create these three masterpieces
{or something of that sort}:

Booyah.
For information on how to make the following:
click here {spring wreath}
here {mossy letter}
and here {nest necklace}.
All of which were much easier than I thought, didn't take excruciating amounts of time, and actually brought me a sense of fulfillment as I finished them.
So whether you are a craft inspirer or inspiree-
keep challenging yourself-
try new things-
and consider doing so amongst a group of friends.
What is better than girl time, a bunch of scrap pieces of fabric, cookies, and a bottle of wine?
Nothing.
That's what =)
Side Note: Please tell your husband that you have to water your mossy letter daily in order for it to survive. You will be amazed at how big his eyeballs get and how fast his jaw hits the floor.
Definitely the highlight of the craft ;)
Crazy man still does not realize that if it requires attention, it does not belong in our household.
..And just for the record-No, the mossy letter does not require water ;)
Welp kiddos, that's all I've got for ya today.
Thank you Alex for allowing me to share with your amazing readers.
You are all gems.
And hey-come check me out...I'd love to have ya :)
Happy Weekend Beauties!

Jessica N {Guest Post}

Good morning my lovelies!

Today, I'd like to introduce you to one of my newest bloggy buddies,
Jessica
of Jessica N Designs.

I just know you're going to love her
{and her gorgeous shop}

Hi! I am so thrilled to be guest posting here at Alexandra Rose! My name is Jessica & I blog here.  I also design unique and meaningful hand stamped jewelry & vintage silverware here. I would love to tell you a little more about me & what I do.

I am 29, married to my high school sweetheart, Brooks, & we have 3 children, Brooklyn (5), Lofton (3) & Lucy (5 months). We live in Ohio but dream of owning a rustic little beach cottage in North Carolina one day! {Read more about me here}

A lot of people ask me how I got started doing metal stamped jewelry & silverware & the answer is that one Christmas I asked my husband for a set of metal design stamps because I'm a Do it myself kind of gal and wanted to make myself an initial necklace & then on a whim decided to open up shop! And I have been very blessed and successful! {He's glad he bought me that set now}

Here are some of the items you can find in my shop, jessicaNdesigns:
 My "i do, me too" forks are by far my most popular item!

I love to blog, I love the super awesome bloggers and readers I have found in the handmade community! One of my favorite things is sharing my DIY projects and discovering other people's creative ones!

Here are 2 of my favorite DIY projects:

My blog is all about sharing DIY projects, Shop Spotlights & Giveaways featuring some amazing shops, Monday Mash Ups featuring pretty things I find on Etsy & all the inspiring things I come across! I also hold a Link Party every Saturday where you can come link up your inspiring ideas, DIY projects, pictures, and any other creative goodness you want to share!  I would love for you to come say Hi!

The Beautiful Casey Wiegand {Guest Blogger}

Casey is such a beautiful spirit,
and a wonderful soul.

I am blessed and honored to say that she is my friend.
She is kind, encouraging, positive
and always takes time to help me or answer my questions.

She truly is a woman after God's own heart
and I couldn't be happier that, today, she's here guest bloggging!

So here she is!

Photobucket

I recently posted about being a bit overwhelmed.

I am a stay at home mama trying to run an art studio out of our home, paint (my "job"), answer emails, phonecalls....all the while putting my husband and kids first.
I am a people pleaser. and I am failing bad.

I have so many untouched emails. Countless un-returned phonecalls.
So I guess what is overwhelming me is the "un"ability to keep everyone happy. My dream come true is to be a wife and a mama. My kids really are my world...probably a little bit too much at some points, but they are. And so staring at my phone all day to keep up with emails or ignoring them while I return a list of voicemails is not working for me.

So balance. How do we do it?

I am learning. Perfection doesn't happen.
My relatiohsip with Jesus and my family comes first....and as long as I keep my eyes upward then I should be fine. My sweet friend Jessi said

"What should your hands be diligently working on and ask Him to help you accomplish it to His glory. "

perfectly said.
Thankful for grace. I need it. And I need to remember to be quick to give it as well :).

"When you decide to live out what you believe. When you decide you want peace in your possession, then you will find out what that looks like & feels like. You begin to pray for God to give you peace. You incorporate peace in your relationships. You decide to respond differently. You speak in love. Act in tenderness. You imitate what you know about peace until it becomes a reality for your character & your life."
I would LOVE for you to check out
my blog !!!

See, I told you Casey was amazing! Head over to her blog now and you'll fall even more in love with her...promise.

Loves!

Keepsake 3D Imaging {spa, pampering - giveaway!!}

Ok guys, I am beyond excited for today's giveaway
as it is something extremely close to my heart...er, belly.
{more on that in a second}

This, is Rebecca, and her beautiful family.

And today, Rebecca is here to share some exciting news and a giveaway with you!
I'll let her tell you all about it:

Keepsake 3D Imaging is Southern Oregon's premier elective ultrasound center and pregnancy spa.  What is an elective ultrasound?  Well, its the same safe ultrasound in your doctors office- but currently insurance only covers 2 per healthy pregnancy, so if you really want more pictures of your little one while they're growing you would have had to drive to Portland or San Francisco... UNTIL NOW!!

Our spa-like setting makes everyone feel relaxed and comfy, while our focus is on the entire family bonding with baby!  We have CD's and DVD's that are facebook ready and we do gender determination as early as 16 weeks!  We also offer a locally made, organic skin care line for both mommy and baby too!!!  Mom's groups are meeting in June: see website for details.

My hubby and I thought of this biz when we got pregnant with our second daughter (now pregnant with our 3rd).  I had recently moved back to GP after a decade living in big cities.  We were shocked that there were no elective ultrasound centers to get more pics of our baby and watch her develop in the womb.  So- we jumped right in and decided to open our own!

I am a very busy mom with a middle schooler that is active in sports, a one year old that just started walking and now we're 5 months pregnant with little girl #3: Deshae Janell, Ila Pearl and Evangeline Rae.  Our friends call us the House of Estrogen :)  Being a busy mom, business owner and "wanna be domestic diva" is both challenging and rewarding.  I try to manage it all with a smile on my face... and always in heels!
check them out here: website/facebook

So, when I was pregnant with baby Isaiah, I worked at a Women's Health Clinic here in town. I was absolutely spoiled with ultrasound pictures of my precious boy throughout my entire pregnancy.
I can't even explain to you how exciting it is to see your baby during those 9 months...
You have all this love for a person you've never even seen, and can I just tell you that 'meeting' your baby via ultrasound amplifies those feelings by, like, a gazillion.

As hubby and I have begun thinking of trying for baby #2, I can't help but be sad that I won't have the special privilege of seeing him/her like the way I did with Isaiah.

And that is why I'm sooo excited about Keepsake 3D Imaging!
You can bet I'm heading there while baby #2 is in the oven :)

 Rebecca is offering up this to one lucky Alexandra Rose reader:

A Gift Certificate for a FREE Show & Tell Package ($150 value)
-certificate is good for one year-
choose to give it away as a gift, use it yourself, or save it for the future.

Oh, she also happens to be my hair stylist and photographer.

Guest Blogger {The Amazing Casey Wiegand}

Good morning!
I'm sure you all remember my friend, Casey
{if not, check out her last guest post where she shared all her favorites with us}

Well guess what?!

She's back here again today
{I'm so excited to have her}
and she's sharing something with us that's been on her heart

So here she is!

Photobucket

Anyone else terrified to raise little girls in this day & age? I mean, raising kids in general is a lot of pressure but for some reason I feel like raising little girls is such a delicate matter.
For one, they are sensitive and from a young age have this desire to be
loved, desired, special & beautiful.
Before I had Ainsleigh I started reading "Bringing up Girls" by James Dobson and honestly didn't finish it...BUT took away some very profound truths from this book.
"Little boys want to know, Do I have what it takes?
Little Girls want to know, Am I lovely?"
There is so much I wish I could share with you on the differences the book points out in raising the two. It is mind blowing.
What is it about us girls? I will be the first to admit I have countless insecurities. Somewhere along the way I convinced myself that if you were beautiful then you were special & loved. It's everywhere...we get it from media, movies, magazines, dolls.... the list goes on. And it is getting worse by the minute. How do we protect our littles?
How do we value their beauty but also their own identities in Christ.
Something I am learning is how much I will have to watch how my own insecurities... how they will rub off on Ainsleigh. I need to find my confidence in the Lord NOW, before it's too late. I need to stop being hard on myself NOW...because she will be watching.
I guest blogged for a new, darling friend recently (at the naptime diaries)and found something so incredibly beautiful and touching in one of her posts... I want to share it with you...
"I never expected that having such a gorgeous daughter would make me feel more comfortable with my outsides, too. But when people say we look alike or that she is just a "mini-Jessi", even though I know she really looks like her Daddy, my heart feels happy and more than thankful to be connected to her. And still... so much more, on the inside - I am just weepingly thankful for the hope in Christ that covers all scars. The inside ones I have that I'm just starting to shed light on. The future ones that I'd give my life to keep her from having. The ones I will try harder than harder to keep from giving her, but I will inevitably, as much as I try not to, leave one or two."
BEAUTIFUL. It is so true. I was talking to a friend recently and the same message was conveyed. When you see yourself in your children, a whole new beauty and affirmation is revealed to you. What an HONOR when people see me in Aiden & Ainsleigh.
Mercy Me
Days will come when you don't have the strength And all you hear is you're not worth anything Wondering if you ever could be loved And if they truly saw your heart They'd see too much You're beautiful, You're beautiful You are made for so much more than all of this You're beautiful, You're beautiful You are treasured, you are sacred, you are His You're beautiful Praying that you have the heart to fightCuz you are more than what is hurting you tonight For all the lies you've held inside so long But they are nothing in the shadow of the cross You're beautiful, You're beautiful You are made for so much more than all of this You're beautiful, You're beautiful You are treasured, you are sacred, you are His You're beautiful Before you ever took a breath Long before the world began Of all the wonders He possessed There was one more precious Of all the earth and skies above You're the one He madly loves Enough to die You're beautiful, You're beautiful In His eyes

Oh Casey, thank you so much for sharing!
You worded everything beautifully!

As hubby and I talk about having another baby
{though I'm about 99.9% sure it will be a boy}
I can't help but think about the challenges of raising a baby girl.

Casey handles it with such grace, strength and courage.

be sure to check out Casey's blog here
and be her friend - you'll be missing out if you don't!

Guest Blogger {a note from my heart...by Ashley Drury}

Good morning! I'd like to introduce you to my friend, Ashley
Here she is with her beautiful family

Ashley has recnetly dedicated her life to giving back and helping others
{something I absolutely admire about her}
and I wanted to help out in any way possible.

You can normally find her blogging over here,
about life, giving back and some really great causes.
Be sure to head on over and check it out.
{but not before you read why she's here today}

Ashley's got some great projects in the near feature,
and I wanted her to tell you about them.

And so, here she is!

Born with Tetralogy of Fallot (a congenital heart defect) in 1985, I
was a healthy 8 pounds and 14 ounces. It wasn’t until I was born that
the doctors realized I had a heart condition.

It was known that I would be having my first open heart surgery as a
baby (the doctors thought somewhere around one year old would be the
time) ... however, they ended up scheduling the surgery for me a
little bit earlier.

At 8 months old I had my first open heart surgery. This surgery was to
put a patch over the hole in my heart. If you aren’t familiar with
Tetralogy of Fallot, here is the definition:

A. Pulmonary Stenosis: A narrowing of the right ventricular outflow
tract and can occur at the pulmonary valve (valvular stenosis) or just
below the pulmonary valve (infundibular stenosis).

B. Overriding Aorta : An aortic valve with bi -ventricular connection,
that is, it is situated above the ventricular septal defect and
connected to both the right and the left ventricle.

C. Ventricular Septal Defect: A hole between the two bottom chambers
(ventricles) of the heart.

Right Ventricular Hypertrophy: The right ventricle is more muscular
than normal, causing a characteristic boot-shaped (coeur-en-sabot)
appearance as seen by chest X-ray. Due to the misarrangement of the
external ventricular septum, the right ventricular wall increases in
size to deal with the increased obstruction to the right outflow
tract.

My first surgery was at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland,
Oregon and it was very successful. Growing up as a child, I always
felt very normal (of course my scar was a constant reminder.) That and
when my friends would point to my scar and ask what it was ... I would
always reply “I was born with a hole in my heart,” even through I
never really understand what happened. I was very fortunate to never
have to take medication for my condition, and with the exception of
never being able to run ... I could pretty much do anything.

I grew up as a dancer. I believe this kept my heart strong. Never once
did I feel that I was different or unable to keep up.

From the time I was a baby, I have had yearly checkups with my
cardiologist. Everything always looked great. They always would say,
“See you in a year,” and send me off.

It was always known that I would be having another surgery at some
point in my life (patients with my condition usually have a few
surgeries in their lifetime) we just didn’t know when the time would
be.

I had my first child in December of 2009. Sweet little Isabella was
born very healthy and just perfect. My pregnancy was great, I didn’t
have any complications. Other than my doctor being a high risk doctor
during my pregnancy, I was treated pretty much as a normal patient.

In August of 2010 I had a check up with my cardiologist , Dr. Brian
Morrison. This appointment was like my many other appointments, except
when he got a very serious look and said, “There are some signs
pointing to a surgery soon for you.” I think I was in shock to hear
this. I cried. I cried really hard. He told me he was sending me to
OHSU in Portland, Oregon for a cardiac MRI and consultation. I was
speechless. I didn’t say much. I left the appointment confused and
scared. I called my mom as soon as I got in the car ... and I bawled
my eyes out. My mom tried to reassure me that everything would be okay
and that I was so healthy. She had guessed my surgery wouldn’t be for
another couple years, at least.

My MRI was scheduled for November of 2010. We headed up to Portland,
hoping for the best and expecting the worst, just in case. I had my
MRI, followed by my consultation the next day. I had my mom, my
fiance’ and my daughter in the room with me. I had doctors in and out
of the room during that consultation, listening to my heart, asking
about my history, talking about my MRI, etc. And finally the one
doctor looked at me and said, “We agree with Dr. Morrison that you
need a surgery soon.” I said okay and asked when. He looked at me and
said,”we think three to six months is when you need to schedule your
surgery.” I don’t remember everything that went through my head. I
remember being in complete shock (3 to 6 months was so soon) and just
crying. They, of course, tried to reassure me ... and I just tried to
stay as strong as I could.

My surgery was scheduled for February 9th, 2011. The surgery would be
for a pulmonary valve replacement. Finding out I would be having
surgery changed my life for the best. I like to think of it, almost as
a “rebirth.” It not only opened my eyes, but it opened my heart. It
taught me to really appreciate what’s important in life and never take
anything for granted. It taught me to have a strong faith and to live
each day to the fullest. And lastly, it gave me this immediate urge to
just want to help others with congenital heart disease, (especially
children.)

I held my first fundraiser and with the help of others in the
community, I was able to raise enough money to donate 50 stuffed
animals to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. It was an awesome
experience for me. I donated all the stuffed animals the day before my
surgery.

My recent surgery, again was done at Doernbecher, in Portland, Oregon.
It was successful. It was the hardest thing I have EVER done in my
life. But ... I am SO much stronger today because of it. I am now
fully recovered from surgery and living life normal. I am getting
married in July to my wonderful fiance’ ... life goes on!

I am here today, not only with a battle wound (my scar) but a story,
and a reason for wanting to help others. I am thankful for this
experience because it has taught me so much. If you want to read more
about my journey with my recent surgery, you can go to this link.

I don’t know what it is, but I just can’t think of anything else to do
... other than help children with my condition and other congenital
heart defects. I think when you go through something like my recent
experience, it changes your whole outlook on life. It makes you want
to be a better person and it teaches you to “really put your heart out
there.”

Having a child of my own changes everything as well. Sometimes I just
look at her and want to cry (happy tears) because I am so thankful for
her perfect health. I think about my mom and everything she went
through with me as a child, it’s something I can’t even imagine.
Before my last surgery, my mom gave me a hug and a kiss and said, “If
I could do this for you, I would.” I think about that every day. Even
though having surgery was so hard, I am so thankful it was me and not
my daughter.

I see all of these families with children with congenital heart
defects and I think, “If I can help make a difference in these lives,
why wouldn’t I do that?” So from this point on ... that is my goal. To
make a difference, to help others, and to give back.

A friend that I grew up with now has a son with a heart condition. He
will be having his 5th surgery next month (he is just 5 years old.)
His surgeries have been at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital as well. I
had a dream, and I asked for some help. With help from my friend, we
are working on an amazing project. I have been in contact with
Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to get this project going. I am unable
to give out any details yet, but I know this is going to be big!

We are calling this project, Love and Ladybugs “Lucky Little Hearts.”
We are asking you to stay updated with us and our blogs:
Ashley Drury

If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for this project, please
contact me at: ashleyadrury@gmail.com

Once we have all the details confirmed, we will be making an
announcement about our project. Please follow my blog and stay updated
with my story, my project and my everyday life.

I am a better woman, mother, lover, daughter, sister, friend and all
of the above because of my recent experience ... from the bottom of my
heart, thank you everyone for all of your love and support.

Thank you, Alex, for sharing my story.
xoxo ashley

Ashley, your story is not only inspiring,
it's motivating.

Thank you for sharing!
I can't wait for more details!

Guest Blogger {And How Nick Jr. Saved Her Life}

Hi guys!
I'm sure you remember Jesse.
She hosted the Sugar and Spice giveaway last week!

Here she is!

{gorgeous, huh?!}

So, you already know she's an amazingly creative jewelry maker,
but what you may not know,
is that she is a wonderful and hilarious momma.

Here are her little ones

How cute are they?!

Today, she's here to share a glimpse into her life of mommyhood
{and can I just say, I totally relate?!}

Take it away, Jesse!

We’ve all heard of them… mom’s who don’t allow their children to watch T.V. Perhaps you know a few? Or maybe you are one? And if so, more power to you!  But, I am not one of “those mom’s”.  Oh, I had every intention of being one… I mean, God forbid my precious daughter Sophie’s highly intelligent brain instantaneously turn to mush the second I hit that power button! Too big of a risk to take, right? So, for the first year and a half of my little ones life, she didn’t watch T.V.

She had, of course, been around television when my husband or I were watching something, but she was never placed in front of it as a means of entertainment and it was never set to a channel that would have remotely been of any interest to her. So, she paid it no attention and rather, kept herself busy with books and toys. This worked out quite well for our little family, until…. one fateful Easter Sunday, when my daughter was just 18 months old and I found out….. I was pregnant.

Yes, bold, italicized, underlined.. pregnant! As you can most likely tell, this pregnancy was unexpected and shocking and my husband and I were terrified! But, that’s another story ;)

Anyway, after getting over the initial disbelief of seeing those 2 pink lines on that little white stick, life resumed to normal… until, it hit.. morning sickness. Why they call it morning sickness, I do not know, because I had all day sickness. We’re talking nausea, vomiting, migraines, the whole enchilada. Granted, it would let up every once in awhile, but would then strike again, holding me captive on the bathroom floor, hovering over the toilet, wondering how in the world I could possibly throw up again.

Now, being mother to an almost two year old is hard enough without feeling like you are going to toss cookies every 5 minutes and by the time I would get home from a full day of work, I would be so sick and so tired that I hardly had enough energy to climb up my front steps and open the door, let alone have enough energy to comply with the demands of a toddler!

As previously stated, my little girl is great at entertaining herself (for the most part), but she is LOUD when she plays and in constant need of affirmation that she is amazing.  So, though I would lie down immediately upon coming home in the hopes of getting some much needed rest, my attempts were futile. Seriously… you try taking a nap with a small child standing at your bedside, inches away from your face yelling, “Mama, Mama!”, every time she builds a tower, or colors a picture, or sees the cat, or puts on a bracelet, or spots  something on the floor that the vacuum didn’t pick up (I’m pretty sure she’s OCD).  This, coupled with the medley of falling blocks, singing toys and one of those stupid popper push toys that no matter where I hide, she always seems to find, didn’t provide for a very good napping environment.

So, one day, after suffering from a particularly horrible migraine with no relief in sight and no hope that my little miss would quiet down any time soon… I did it. I grabbed the remote, I turned on the T.V. and tuned it to the first cartoon channel I was able to see through my swollen, blood shot, migraine eyes….. Nick Jr.

And then… I heard it… a sound so beautiful that it was comparable to angel’s singing… SILENCE  (well except for the creepy guy in the orange jumpsuit.. have any of you seen Yo Gabba Gabba? Strange… but it’s growing on me).  Yes, my girl was mesmerized and officially hooked. And I… well, I got some much needed sleep!

From that day on Nick Jr. has been a dear friend to me. It not only got me through my morning sickness which lasted a majority of my pregnancy, but even after my second child was born (Owen.. he’s 4 months old and super cute) I still turned to Nick Jr. for help…  because sometimes  Nick Jr. allows me to sleep in,  sometimes it provides me with a moment of quiet so that I don’t completely lose my mind,  and  sometimes Nick Jr. allows me to take a shower that lasts longer than 5 minutes during which I might even have the chance to shave my legs (you’re welcome husband).

So, thank you Nick Jr., for saving my life and for being like preschool on T.V.!

Alex here!
Thanks so much for sharing, Jesse!

I know I only have one child,
and have not yet had to experience morning sickness while having a toddler,
but I already adore Nick Jr. and how much my child loves Moose and Zee
...I have a feeling I'll have a whole new appreciation for it after baby #2 :)
